I was reading this article today about Civil Rights activist David Kennedy and his fight to shut down a Klu Klux Klan konnected gift shop called The Redneck Shop (pictured above).
To be wholly honest, this is a really boring story. It’s really just a rehashing of the age old conflict between freedom of speech and the desire to prohibit of hate-speech. The Redneck Shop is no doubt a hot-bed of retard activity, but it doesn’t seem like simple racism is grounds enough to shut down a business. I wish it was. I’d never see another goddamn “Git Er Done” shirt or bumper-sticker again.
The only thing I found interesting at all was that the story strongly stressed Kennedy’s rally catch-phrase: “Pump It Up.”"Pump It Up?” Really? He sounds like a bad shout-out man for some mid-nineties rap act, or some dime-store motivational speaker, holding a convention on positivity.
He could really do better, and it’s my only goal in life to be helpful. What follows is a list of more appropriate, if not more timely, rallying cries which I would welcome David Kennedy to adopt.
- “Shut It Down”
- “Make It Shake”
- “Bump It Up”
- “Squash That Beef” (alternative: “Squash That Shit”)
- “Bake That Cake”
- “Put Some Pants On That Kid”
